Since 1895, Joseph John Thomson at the Cavendish Laboratory of the University of Cambridge begins a methodological quantitative study of the deflection of cathode rays in electric and magnetic fields. The results of this work were published in 1897 in the October issue of the Philosophical Magazine . In his experiment, Thomson proved that all the particles that form the cathode rays are identical to each other and are part of the substance. The essence of the experiments and the hypothesis of the existence of matter in a state of even finer fragmentation than atoms, Thomson outlined at the evening meeting of the Royal Society on April 29, 1897. Knight for the first time published in “Electrican” 21 May 1897 р. In 1906, Thomson received the Nobel Prize in Physics for recognition of the Nobel Prize in Physics .
With such a rank, April 29 can be celebrated as the Day of the People’s Day of the Electron.
