In Memory of Mykola Hryhorovych Kokodii

In memoriam Mykola Kokodii

A leading researcher of the Department of Quantum Radiophysics, Professor Mykola Kokodii, has passed away…

With deep sorrow, we inform you that on March 3, 2026, at the age of 85,
Mykola Hryhorovych Kokodii, Leading Researcher of the Department of Quantum Radiophysics,
Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, passed away.

Mykola Hryhorovych was a graduate of Karazin University and belonged to a generation of scholars
for whom the university was not merely a workplace, but a calling and a way of life.
He was well known and sincerely respected by colleagues and students alike — as a demanding professor,
principled in matters of scientific and academic integrity, and at the same time a sensitive and attentive
person who was always ready to listen, support, and help in difficult situations.

Until his final days, he remained devoted to his students: just last week he was conducting classes,
maintaining his characteristic responsibility and inner dignity. In recent years, Prof. Kokodii actively
worked on scientific problems of computer-based signal processing from laser measurement instruments,
as well as methods of computer modeling of phenomena in physics and biophysics.

Mykola Hryhorovych was born on July 20, 1940, into a family of rural schoolteachers.
In 1958, he graduated from secondary school and entered the Faculty of Radiophysics of
Kharkiv State University named after O.M. Gorky (now V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University).
In 1963, he graduated from the university and continued his studies as a postgraduate student
at the Department of Radio Measurements. In 1967, he defended his PhD thesis in Physical
and Mathematical Sciences. From 1962 to 1999, he worked at the university in various positions —
from laboratory assistant to professor.

From 1999 to 2021, Mykola Hryhorovych worked at the National University of Pharmacy
at the Department of Physics, where he taught mathematics, physics, biophysics,
and related disciplines. In 2021, he returned to Karazin University and continued his teaching
and research activities at the Educational and Research Institute of Ecology,
Green Energy and Sustainable Development, as well as at the Faculty of Radiophysics,
Biomedical Electronics and Computer Systems.

He began his scientific career in his fourth year of study, researching issues related
to laser radiation measurements. In 1992, he defended his doctoral dissertation
entitled “Methods for Measuring the Energy Characteristics of High-Power Laser Radiation.”
His scientific work was devoted to the study of the interaction of electromagnetic radiation
with matter, mathematical modeling of physical processes, automation of experiments,
and processing of experimental data.

The faculty team bows their heads in deep respect to the bright memory of
Mykola Hryhorovych. His memory will live on in the hearts of his students and colleagues,
in the results of his scientific research, and in the daily university tradition
to which he devoted his entire life.

The faculty community expresses its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones
of Mykola Hryhorovych Kokodii.
